Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know of a way I can get the oil minder alerts in synch with actual oil changes? Here's what's going on.

At 6,012 miles / 9½ months the dealership gave our new Fiesta its first oil change. They commented that at around 6,000 miles is when they like to give a new car its first oil & filter change.  The oil minder wasn't on at this time. Then 1,923 miles / 1½ months later the oil minder lit up. That was about 1,206 miles ago back on 2016-Dec-13.

My first thought was to just reset it, but then it dawned on me that if I do that then the oil minder will be out of synch with when oil changes should really be done.  I would just have to do the oil changes based purely on mileage and whenever the oil minder comes on I would just reset it. I would really like to have the oil minder coincide with when oil changes are really needed.

I look forward to any help that  could be offered.

So just in case this could be a help (or satisfy a curiosity) for anyone -

I used Ford's on-line chat and this is what they had to say:

The Oil Life system can be reset.  The Oil-Life Monitoring System will display a message at the proper oil change service interval; the interval is one year or 10,000 miles under normal driving conditions. However, if your vehicle’s oil needs are different it will reflect the message when needed.

So it almost sounds like it may be able to adjust itself for the fact that the oil was changed early and then reset a while after the fact. So I'll do the reset and see when the indicator comes back on...see how that correlates with the next oil change based on just mileage.

This is what I've experienced myself. I have a Oct 2013 build and initially 1.0L ecoboosts did not have an active OLM. Ford issued a TSB for this and I had it performed. I originally thought that it was an intelligent OLM but from what I've seen it just goes by mileage -- not taking into consideration how "spiritedly" or not the car is driven.

My thoughts are that it will come back on 10k miles after you reset it. Pic below is ~4.5k into an oil change.

Thanks for the reply.

After reading your experience I'm really curious now to see how this will play out...since my OLM activated at 9,806 miles. Now I'll wait a year.  :)

So is that pic in your reply from your Fiesta's display? It looks so much more high-tech than my monochromatic green one.

Enjoy the drive,

Chris

Yes, It's of my phone running forscan lite. I was curious what my oil life remaining was after having the tsb performed.
