Great article about the Fiesta vs Fit.
I own an Escape and like the rear seat configuration, split and fold-flat
ability and the removal of the seat cushion for even more room.
Why NOT the same for the Fiesta?
I checked the Honda Fit today and found the rear seat fold-flat GREAT!
Why can't Ford do the same / similar to the Fiesta as the Fit / Escape?!?
From the reviews, this seems to be the ONLY issue that is a negative.
Fix the rear seat (and offer a turbo-diesel) and Ford Fiesta will beat the Fit.
My $0.02 worth.

I have driven both the first and current generation Fit. They are not very "sporty". I am willing to overlook certain things like how flat the back seat folds down. I generally just remove the backseat in my small cars if I am hauling anything largeish. The 1st gen' fit is also grossly undertired. you will wear out the O.E. Dunlop SP 14 inchers in no time if you do much cut and thrust driving! The interior trim on gen 1's is also not very durable and the carpeting is a kind of nasty cheap stuff that is a dirt magnet. If you dont vaccuum weekly, you will soon have a fit that can't be made "Fit" ever again! The 2nd Gen has better performance but only by slim degrees. The second gen fit I had was an "S" pkg car, it was better but not hugely so. These cars were developed for the Japanese domestic market, speed limits in Japan are very low. these cars boom at highway speeds. I think the Fiesta may well be far better having been developed primarily for the U.K and E.U. where speed limits are much higher. I am just guessing on that though. The original Fiesta was a far better car than the original Escort. Honda makes a good car in the Fit, don't get me wrong. I just think that these two had very different markets in mind when they were developed. All vehicles are basically reflections of what their respective intended markets/customers expectations are perceived to be. The ONLY purpose Honda has for Fit is to be a fuel saver. Mario Andretti wanna be's will not be standing in line to buy one.

I haven't driven the second-gen Fit. But must agree that the first-gen Fit was much less fun to drive than the glowing reviews led me to believe. I'm certainly looking forward to checking out the Fiesta.
My main concern, from the specs--the Fiesta's rear seat appears to be very tight.

Hello there. I needed some guidance. Right now I'm buying my first car and I don't have much of a budget. I have two options of certified used vehicles, a 2005 Ford Fiesta Trend Hatchback or a 2006 Honda Fit. Which one do you think is better? I'm from Honduras so I don't know if in the U.S. there was a Fiesta Trend or if there was a Fiesta of that year type. The Fit is a base model type with an aftermarket radio player with CD and it also has an aftermarked alarm system. The Fiesta comes with it's own alarm and original aluminum wheels. The Fit has aftermarket aluminum wheels and spoiler.

The Fit is not a bad car Chatio. If it was me, I would visit the local dealers for both the Ford and the Honda. whichever facility impresses you the most, I would buy that brand. I am not familiar with the authorized dealer situation in Honduras but, If the nearest Honda store is twice as far as the nearest Ford store, and the Ford store is a good one, then buy the Fiesta. Good service is very important no matter what country you live in!

Great article, both cars seem to be very similar. But I would take the Focus.
