Please consider this change before 2010 introduction to the USA.

I own an Escape and like the rear seat configuration, split and fold-flat
ability and the removal of the seat cushion for even more room.

Why NOT the same for the Fiesta?

I checked the Honda Fit today and found the rear seat fold-flat GREAT!
Why can't Ford do the same / similar to the Fiesta as the Fit / Escape?!?

From the reviews, this seems to be the ONLY issue that is a negative.

Fix the rear seat (and offer a turbo-diesel) and Ford Fiesta will beat the Fit.

My $0.02 worth.

I think a guy with a tape measure, 1/8 luan plywood, a four inch thick styrofoam panel, some black automotive style carpeting and a good grade of adhesive could make something that would provide a "Flat load floor". If he were to plan it out a bit he could actually have hidden storage in the shallow dead space created under the carpeted false floor! Yes, the load floor would be higher. Yes, some space would be lost. But, when you opened the hatch and the rear seatback was tumbled forward, you would have a pretty much flat loadfloor. I am going to do one of these and put my onboard air compressor and a 1000 watt inverted power supply as well as a toolkit under the load floor! Nothing will be sliding around loose. each will be stashed in its own dedicated spot. I will then move on to the issue of where to mount the machine guns and surface to surface missile system!

That was the one thing that was turning me off about these cars, but then I thought about doing this too.....so I think went I get mine in a year that will be the first thing I decide to do....I might load it with a tool kit, some small subs and a power inverter.....should be cool.

Then match the carpet to the back of the rear seats and presto....fold flat seats
